Mike Durfee, our new Executive Director, started with us on Monday, May 1. We asked Mike to provide a short bio to use for an announcement. Here’s what he had to say:
Michael Durfee was born and raised in Webster, NY, and spent much of his childhood outdoors hiking, dirt biking, and gardening with his family. While studying History and Economics at SUNY Cortland, Michael studied abroad in Perugia, Italy, and interned with a carbon neutral vineyard, exposing him to innovative agriculture practices.
Michael has a wealth of experience in community work, having worked in various roles including for a law firm, the U.S. House of Representatives, and a local non-profit. Most recently working as a Logistics Manager at a local food hub, Michael focused on developing regional food systems and supply chains to bring food produced in New York to food banks and pantries throughout the state.
His passion for food insecurity took root in his last role, and he is grateful to now be joining The People’s Pantry team to help further the mission of providing food security to the Rochester community. We’ve noticed that Mike is bringing energy and enthusiasm to his role as Executive Director.
